The School Bell

By Kathy Pippig Harris I was finishing up a home call one late autumn afternoon. As I pulled out onto the narrow road skirting the school I heard the school bell ring. I braked, put the car in reverse and sidled back to the sidewalk. It was a lovely day. Warming sun and autumn fragrances danced on a thin breeze. I turned to look at the schoolyard, but my sight was focused on memories, years old. I couldnt recall the last time Id heard the old fashioned school bell. It had been childhoods ago–that much I was certain of. My body was sitting in the car, behind the wheel, but my senses had transported me a long distance from the present. I inhaled and I could smell sun-warmed skin on a summer afternoon. Gangly limbs akimbo as a group of children played tether ball. Goofy grins from several of my schoolmates as they took turns throwing a small beanbag and jumping to another hop scotch square. Out of the corner of my eye I catch the flurried movement of kids scrambling on jungle gyms, merry-go-rounds, swings, and monkey bars. They were the schools younger pupils, playing in their designated area of the yard. Overhead, a shiny crow caws out, as if directing the play of the little humans below his perch. Over near some blooming shrubbery, fat bumble bees saw the air, up and down, as the bees thickly rounded bodies wobble among the sweet-scented flowers. Hanging damp and animated, the fragrance of newly cut lawn lingers in the air, fills my breath with its clean aroma. Some one comes up from behind and pounds me on the shoulder, hard enough to send me lurching forward. I clench my hands into fists and spin around ready to spit venom. The words lose direction in my mouth and all that comes out is the collective sigh of the words not used. There, with red hair gleaming, with freckles looking darker on his pale flesh in the sunlight, and a crooked grin stretched across his face, stood Jimmy. My first crush since Kindergarten. Past a grin he said, “Do you want to play?” Jimmy held a basketball and gestured to the blacktop court. I goggled at him, nodding in the affirmative. Basketball wasn’t my game but I loved to throw the ball and watch it drop through the netted hoop. I had a few “trick shots” that every once in a while I could execute perfectly. We laughed and jumped and ran. While I bent over to catch my breath I could hear the echoed thwang of the basketball as Jimmy bounced it on the asphalt behind me. Just as I was straightening up the school bell rang. Everyone scrambled to pick up their possessions and equipment, then off to their classrooms they went. I didn’t follow them. I drifted for a while on scattered memories. Lunches in the cafeteria–the same place we had our concerts and watched educational films. And on those nights we had school carnivals the cafeteria was the place they held the cake walks, and played musical chairs. Another tolling of the school bell and the students swarmed out of their classrooms, past the metal fence and over to the crosswalk where students given the honor of being Crossing Guards monitored the foot traffic. Kids who had parents waiting for them ran over to their cars. The rest of us walked home. Home was less than a block away and took no time at all, even when I dawdled. Once at home, no thought of school entered my mind with the exception of required homework. The bell that regulated the important intervals in my school days held no significance once away from it. And so it has been now, for many years–no thought of the school bell had I entertained…until I was parked next to the elementary school, and the bell rang out. Last Minute Birthday Gifts

By Kum Martin It can be impossible to remember the birth dates of everyone you know. In fact, if you know a lot of people, you may feel stressed about having to get so many gifts. It can be difficult to remember important birthdays and even more difficult to get a gift on time for each birthday. You may even find yourself in need of a last-minute birthday gift. Use these ideas to help you get through those times when you need a birthday present fast! Flowers Flowers are always an easy thing to pick up on the way to a birthday party or even at lunch during work hours. They are simple to bring back to the office without being noticed. One reason to use flower gifts is when you forget about a birthday. By calling a florist and having the flowers delivered, you can make up for shopping time. For instance, if you get to the office and notice you forgot your favorite co-workers birthday, you can make a quick call and have flowers delivered. The best part is that you can do this without leaving the office. She will never even know you forgot! Dinner Taking someone to dinner can be a great last-minute birthday gift. If you forget to purchase a gift, you can always take them to dinner. This can be great for people you work with or even your friends. Tell them that instead of getting them a gift they would soon forget, you want to take them to a nice restaurant to celebrate. They will love it! Jewelry If you have forgotten your spouses birthday, the only way to make up for it is to pick up a quick piece of jewelry. You can choose a nice watch, a necklace, or a bracelet in no time and look like you planned the whole thing. Jewelry always brings a smile to the faces of those you love. Online Debt Consolidation Services - Get Out of Debt with Bad Credit

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carrie_Reeder]Carrie Reeder Online debt consolidation services help you get out of debt even with bad credit. By developing relationships with your creditors, a debt consolidation company can help you reestablish a positive credit history by handling your payments. They will also lower your interest rates and provide a structured payment plan. Getting Out Of Debt Debt consolidation services basically act like your bookkeeper. You send them a check every month. From that amount, they pay your creditors and deduct their own small fee. Before making payments, debt consolidators create a repayment plan based on what you are currently paying. Within this figure, they can get you out of debt sooner by negotiating lower rates with your debt holders. Since not all accounts carry the same balance, your accounts will be eliminated over time. In most cases, all short term debt can be retired in five years or less. Improving Your Credit In as little as a year, you can see a significant improvement in your credit score. While most lenders will temporally freeze your credit when you first begin a debt consolidation plan, they will usually extend new credit after twelve months. Two years of on time payments will significantly improve your score. Even though those late payments, foreclosures, or bankruptcies will be on your credit report, they will have hardly any impact after two years. A reduction in your debt to income ratio will also bolster your credit score. Working With An Online Debt Consolidation Company Online debt consolidation companies offer their services through the convenience of the internet. Depending on the company, you can request pay off quotes, services, or information. Some companies handle the entire process online, saving you from wasting time on meetings or phone conferences. Before selecting a debt consolidation company, look at several sites. Make sure they answer your questions and provide you with detailed information. Request pay off dates on your accounts and information on their fees. Once you find a company that offers reasonable rates and you feel comfortable with, go ahead and start the process. The sooner you start, the quicker you will get out of debt. View our recommended companies for [http://www.abcloanguide.com/badcreditdebtconsolidation.shtml]Bad Credit Debt Consolidation. Save Money with Low Cost Loans

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Peter_Taylor]Peter Taylor Low cost loans, in simple words can be defined as cheap loans. But if we ask to group of person that what are low cost loan. Then each and every individual in a group will define this term in different way. Because for some people low cost means low rate of interest and for some it may be flexible repayment period. So, we can say that it totally depends on the individual circumstances of a person. But, what are low cost loans? In financial market the low cost loans can be defined as combination of the low annual percentage rate and favorable terms & conditions. The key of getting the low cost loan is the searching for the lender offering the low APR and terms which match your needs and requirements. Another factor which makes the loan cheap is the collateral placed against the amount. The collateral makes the lender feel secure against the risk involved regarding the non payment. To avail the cheaper or low cost loan the person must not only consider the interest rate but also other cost involved in it. And the sum of interest rate and cost is termed as annual percentage rate. The low APR enable to save money which can be used to satisfy other needs of a person. Generally, the lender offers two type of interest rate, that is, fixed and variable rate. Fixed rate of interest is secure and the person is required to pay a flat rate to the lender on an amount. On the other hand, in variable rate of interest the person pays interest as per the movement in the market. But, fixed rate is recommended for those who dont want to undertake risk. Sometimes, it have been seen that, the loan agreement offering very low and competitive rate of interest involves hidden cost which the borrower comes to know when he has enter in an agreement. For this small print of loan must be considered individually. Because once the person has entered in the agreement, nothing can be done in order to avoid such unfavorable clause. It becomes an obligation for a borrower. The clauses regarding early repayments, penalties on making late payments etc must be taken into account. The reason behind is that such undesirable payments increases the cost of the loan. Remember, a low cost loan is that which includes low interest rate, low cost, flexible repayment period, no arrangement cost and no early repayment fee. These above are the features which the person must consider when he is planning to avail low cost loans. Peter Taylor is a senior financial analyst at LoansX with an acumen for finance and insurance. In recent years he has taken up to provide independant financial advice through his informative articles. His articles are widely read because of the lucid manner of wriiting and thoroughly researched datas. Where Craft Show Profits are Lost

By Natalie Goyette It is important to remember that even though you are doing something you love, trying to make a profit at a craft show is still a business and you need to treat it like one. While it is an enjoyably endeavor, there are a few things you need to keep in mind when you market and sell your crafts in order to increase your profits while you do it. Craft show profits are left on the table in these 3 areas: 1.) Craft expense When you are putting together your crafts for profit, you need to keep a close eye on money that you are spending to build them. Overspending on supplies is probably the biggest mistake made by crafters wishing to make a little extra cash on their goods. Buy in bulk, make deals at the craft store, price check do whatever you can to lower the cost of making your crafts. That is the first step. 2.) Pricing the product How much time do you put into coming up with a retail price for your crafts? This is another area where money is just left on the table at a craft show. Aside from the cost to make your crafts, you need to take into account other costs like: booth construction, craft show fees, paying yourself or others to make the craft, financial fees for credit card machines etc. When you price your crafts, you need to make sure that you aren’t pricing them solely on the cost of the materials to make the finished product. That’s only part of the equation you also need to price the product appropriately a 10% markup just doesn’t cut it. You can probably markup your craft 100% from the total cost and still be in the proper price range. Find out what the market will bear for your product you might get more, or less, for your craft than a 100% markup. 3.) Traffic / Booth If you can’t get people into your booth, and then entice them to buy it doesn’t matter how low or high the price is it just isn’t going to help you make a profit. This would be the third problem. It could have the most impact on your bottom line, because without sales, you have NO profits! Set up an attractive booth that people are interested in frequenting, and then spend some time making your product accessible and improving the flow and efficiency of the booth. Paying attention to where your money and effort are going should pay off when you head to the next craft shows. If you want to improve the bottom line of your craft show business, then you need to make decisions based on all of the dollars and common sense! Finding Your Ideal Mate(2)- The Simple Art of Good Conversation

By Elaine Sihera A man at a club once said that he didnt ask me to dance because he feared rejection. But he lost the possibility of acceptance too by doing nothing! Another day, I was in the local car park in my town and saw a shy-looking man gazing at me intently. He went on his business, returned to the car park at the same time as I did, and continued to look at me, hoping I would probably indicate some form of acceptance. He was quite appealing and I exchanged eye contact but said nothing. He drove off soon afterwards, again lacking the courage to make a move towards me. I often wondered about him, who he was and where he was going, and I am sure he wondered about me too. But when we make no effort in such situations, nothing ever happens. For this reason, for fear of our actions being misinterpreted and because of the perfection we seek, men now dance by themselves, or talk among themselves, and women do the same, each gender lacking the courage to make a move while they drift further apart in the selection process and remain on their own for much longer. In fact, at another club, a man walked in and took up a position leaning against a wall. He never left that position for the rest of the night, not even to get some drinks. He looked sad, lonely and dejected and everyone ignored him. I wondered why he bothered to come out of his house if he wanted to just exchange one wall for another! But that’s what fear and low self-esteem do for us. They rob us of opportunities to join the human race. The Art of Conversation Wishing, hoping and dreaming about finding our ideal partner, without any form of strategy will lead nowhere. Serious people do not leave everything to chance. They try their utmost to increase the possibilities of meeting that ideal person by doing something about it, even if it is to strike up a simple conversation. A lack of interest in others, exaggerated fears, a need for approval, a focus on ourselves and social protocol (especially for women) make it hard for us to communicate or use our initiative. But any interaction or conversation is like a game of tennis. If the ball is held by one person and never passed back and forth, there would be no game and it would be very boring. The ball, in our quest for a partner, refers to all the questions we ask others to reflect our curiosity. With many people being rather self-centred, they cannot see that connection and so the one-way attempt at interaction makes it difficult to sustain a dialogue, let alone any kind of relationship. I was not afraid to speak to that man in the car park. I was single and available. In fact, I never engage prolonged eye-contact with anyone unless I really want to talk to them. However, even though I responded to his gaze, the social brainwashing of a man being expected to make the first move took hold of me as I looked at him and did nothing. He did nothing too. Result: Opportunity lost. Another limiting factor is that too many people believe there is only one partner in this world who is ideal for them. But that has no basis in fact. If that were the case, we would not meet and fall in love on multiple occasions with very successful results. Our love life would be finished, once our first partner leaves the scene! It is our narrow vision of acceptability, the low expectations we carry, the lack of skills in wooing others and the preoccupation with being hurt rather than being loved, which keep us without any partners or stuck in negative relationships. Next time you see a potential soulmate, try asking questions about them, instead of just going on about yourself, and see the difference. Office Nomance

By Sean Williams Are Office Romances really that bad? The answer is ..it depends on the individual. The key to success in an office romance is accepting the reality of the situation. Some relationship experts say if you engage in this type of relationship, you should keep it on the hush hush and keep it professional. In a utopian office environment that might work but when emotions are involved, people tend to stray from such principles. So, I say accept from the get go if you become intimate with each other that it will leak out to the corporate environment; the corporate eyes are omnipotent and eventually gossip and rumors will spread quicker than wildfire. For example, at my job, a female co-worker who had recently broken up with a fellow co-worker revealed to me his inadequacies in the bedroom and how he was the biggest loser she had ever dated. Now, if she told me this personal information and we were just associates, imagine who else she told at our organization. The point is arm yourself with the foresight of the potential consequence of an office relationship. Once youre accepting of this awareness and your okay with it, proceed on to your newly blossoming office relationship. Like my friend says the only two things that can happen in a relationship is you either break up or worst you get married. If the reality that your personal business might be exposed and put on display daunts you then you should probably refrain from the office romance. In the end, its your choice, you have to dig deep, look within yourself and make a decision that aligns with your values. Sean Williams is a Relationship Coach for men and women. Cheapest California DUI Lawyers

By Ken Marlborough DUI refers to driving under the influence of alcohol. A person is charged with DUI if the blood alcohol content (BAC) exceeds 0.08%. DUI is a criminal offence and extremely strict penalties are awarded to people arrested for DUI. Apart from vehicle impoundment or fines, the license of the person can also be confiscated and at time termination of the same may also take place. On being charged with drunk driving or being intoxicated through the use of alcohol or drugs, or perhaps arrested, an efficient California DUI lawyer can provide assistance in obtaining bail and dealing with charges surrounding DUI. They also protect drivers who have their licenses suspended provisionally, drivers who are charged with rash driving, attending DMV hearings, and other driving violation related legal issues. Often people living in California, as well as visitors from other states and countries, may not be familiar with the various California vehicle code sections. DUI lawyers are well familiar with the sections for rash driving, DUI charges, drug-associated charges, causing accidents related to DUI, and punishments that may be inflicted. They warn people against mistakes that can be avoided while dealing with their charge, and challenging a DUI charge. While the services of an experienced and efficient lawyer may be expensive, there are many DUI lawyers who provide quality service for lower prices. Many DUI lawyers also work on contingency basis. When the contract to pay a lawyer in case of a DUI is based on contingency, the fee is always set at a prearranged percentage of whatever the compensation amount might be. If the case is lost, the person does not have to pay the lawyer’s fees. Paying on contingency can enable people to hire the services of an expensive attorney, even though they may not be in a position to pay for it. This allows them the opportunity to avail of the services of an experienced lawyer at a minimal fee. DUI is a criminal offense and as such, a person charged with DUI should not take this charge lightly. Hiring a cheap lawyer always may not prove to be a wise option, especially when the lawyer’s track record with that sort of case is not particularly strong. California DUI Lawyers provides detailed information on California DUI lawyers, California alcohol treatment, California DUI arrests, California DUI defense and more.
